Our Powerball analytics page examines every Australian Powerball draw since January 2008 to show how frequently each of the 35 main numbers and 20 Powerball numbers has been drawn. The 2018 format change from 6/40 + PB/20 to 7/35 + PB/20 means our post-2018 analysis is the most relevant for current players. With thousands of draws in our database, the frequency distribution for main numbers is remarkably even — most numbers have appeared within 3–5% of their expected count. However, shorter time windows of 20–50 draws reveal fascinating short-term deviations that form the basis of our hot and cold analysis. Hot and Cold Numbers
With 7 numbers drawn from 35 each week, the expected frequency per number is 20% per draw. Numbers consistently appearing above this rate in recent draws are classified as hot; those below are cold. Powerball numbers (1–20) have a separate frequency analysis since one is drawn from a different barrel. A Powerball number's expected frequency is 5% per draw. Our colour-coded heat maps make it easy to spot which numbers are running above or below expectation.
The dual-barrel system means you should analyse main number trends and Powerball trends independently. A main number running hot has absolutely no connection to which Powerball number appears — they are drawn from physically separate barrels. Our dashboard separates these analyses clearly, showing distinct hot/cold panels for the main barrel (1–35) and the Powerball barrel (1–20). Overdue Number Detection
For Powerball's 7/35 format, the average gap between appearances for a main number is approximately 5 draws. For the Powerball number (1–20), the average gap is around 20 draws. Our overdue tracker flags numbers whose current absence significantly exceeds their historical average, calculated as a standard deviation from the mean gap.
Since the Powerball barrel only contains 20 numbers with one drawn per week, individual Powerball numbers can go 30–40 draws without appearing — this is unusual but not extraordinary. The deviation score helps you distinguish between genuinely unusual absences and normal variance within the smaller Powerball pool.
Common Pair Analysis
With 7 numbers drawn per game from 35, each draw produces 21 unique pairs — significantly more than TattsLotto's 15 pairs from 6 numbers. This means pair frequency data accumulates faster for Powerball. We track which pairs appear together most often and display the top combinations alongside their expected frequency for comparison. The total number of possible pairs from 35 numbers is 595, giving our analysis strong statistical power across thousands of draws.
Jackpot and Division Analysis
Powerball's extreme Division 1 odds (1 in 134,490,400) mean jackpots roll over frequently, often reaching $50M–$100M+. Odd/Even and Sum Range Patterns
Analysis of Powerball's main number draws shows that balanced odd/even splits dominate: the most common distributions are 4 odd + 3 even and 3 odd + 4 even, each appearing in approximately 29% of draws. All-odd or all-even sets are exceedingly rare at less than 0.5% of draws. The sum of 7 main numbers typically falls between 100 and 160, with a median around 126.
